No More Dirty Diapers
Did you know diaper manufacturers don’t have to disclose their ingredients publicly or test the safety of their products? The disposable diaper market is only weakly regulated – which is shocking, considering babies and children wear on average 2,500 diapers a year.
That’s why EWG decided to create a standard you can trust when you shop for diapers.
The skin is a dynamic organ that develops and matures over time. A newborn’s skin is significantly thinner and more permeable than that of an adult and can more readily absorb some chemicals. The area around a baby’s genitals is even thinner and more susceptible to exposure to potentially harmful chemicals, like dyes, chlorine and phthalates, all of which can be found in diapers.
When you see the EWG VERIFIED mark on a package of diapers, you can trust that they meet our strictest standards for your baby’s health. Together we can strive for no more dirty diapers.
At EWG, we believe diapers should be:
- Free from chemicals, materials and contaminants linked to health harms.
- Low-emitting in volatile organic compounds.
- Free from added fragrances and lotions.
- Made with transparency, with all ingredients and materials used publicly disclosed.
Diapers get messy enough – shopping for them should be easy.
