EWG statement on historic food and farm investments in Senate budget resolution

WASHINGTON – Senate leaders today released a $3.5 trillion budget resolution that includes $135 billion to address the nation’s food and farm challenges, including historic investments in tackling hunger, promoting land stewardship and other key provisions.

The following is a statement by Scott Faber, EWG’s senior vice president for government affairs:

EWG applauds Senate leaders for proposing $135 billion to meet our urgent food and farm challenges. Too many of us struggle with hunger, lack access to healthy food or drink polluted water. And farmers of color continue to struggle with the impacts of longstanding discrimination.

It’s good news that Senate leaders are making historic investments to tackle hunger, provide incentives for better land stewardship, build healthy diets and right historic wrongs.

Further compounding the benefits of investing in land stewardship, many of the practices that improve water quality and provide habitat for wildlife may also reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect farmers and ranchers from the worst effects of climate change.
